What bad indoor air looks like in a Tri-Cities house
Most people notice it before they can name it. Dust settles on the same shelf two days after you wiped it. Someone in the house sneezes every morning and feels better after an afternoon outdoors. The winter air is so dry that your throat is scratchy and the wood floor gaps open, and a back bedroom smells stale no matter how long the window stays open.
Houses in Kennewick and Richland take in a lot of fine dust from the desert, and a modern, well-sealed home holds on to whatever gets inside. The heating and cooling system moves every cubic foot of that air through the ductwork several times a day, which makes the system the best place to fix the problem. It is also where the problem tends to start when filters clog and ducts leak.
None of this needs a scare story. It needs someone to look at how the air actually moves through your particular house, and that is the work our technicians do before recommending a single product.

The tools: ventilation, filtration, humidity and purification
Indoor air quality is a set of tools, and the right mix depends on the house. Ventilation brings in fresh air and exhausts the stale. Filtration catches dust and allergens before they circulate again. Humidity control adds moisture in a dry January or takes it out when a space feels clammy. Air-quality sensors give you a reading instead of a hunch, and a ductwork inspection shows whether the air is leaking out of the system before it ever reaches a room.
For purification we install RGF REME HALO and HALO-LED units, which are mounted in the air handler so they treat the air the system is already moving, and the PureAir Air Purification System. We will tell you plainly which of these suits your home and which you can skip.
Because Jacobs and Rhodes fabricates its own sheet metal in-house, a duct change that an air-quality fix needs is something our sheet metal fabricator, Christian Stewart, can build to fit instead of forcing a stock part into your ceiling.

Keeping it working: filters, visits and a clear goal
Air quality equipment only works while it is maintained. A filter that has run past its life restricts airflow, makes the blower work harder and lets dust through around its edges. Filter changes, seasonal checks and a periodic look at the purification units are what keep the equipment doing what you paid for, and Ted's Comfort Club maintenance visits are where most of that happens. Filters can also be ordered through our office.
Our vision statement says what the work is for: "To provide the best indoor air experience for comfort and health." We wrote our service around that sentence, and it is why an air quality visit here starts with questions about who lives in the house and what bothers them, not with a product list.
